Hey everyone,

I would love to get this community revived.

am i alone?
ok so i am very new to live journal and stuff and would usually just complain in a book but feedback would be nice. so i am black/african american and am doing my masters in anthropology. i live in denver but come from connecticut and while i am use to being the only person of color amongst a huge amount of white people it has never Really bothered me until now. i feel like there is really no one to talk to except the program assistant because she is black and that sounds badish but really no one else understands. and i have friends of all colors but they seem different from the people i encounter here. now maybe it is just colorado and stuff but yeah maybe the lonely no one looks like me feeling has finely caught up. any advice?

Re: am i alone?
well, that's a tough one. first, i'd ask as a mod note, that you make this post (and any others you make here) friends only.

second, i think you are already doing one of the most important things a POC can do in your situation: seek out other POCs and build new connections. it will help you keep your sanity. i've never been Out West but my mom lived in Denver as a young woman and from the stories she's told i can CERTAINLY empathize. in the face of it i can't advocate strongly enough how important it is to remember you are not crazy & your work is important. also: don't just suck it up. resistance is cathartic.
